Professor Evan Widders is the coordinator of the Multidisciplinary Studies Program at West Virginia University. He holds a Ph.D. in the History of Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara and a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature and History from the University of California Berkeley. His research interests center on the instrumental role of science, medicine, and Enlightenment philosophy in the development of a Mexican national identity during the late-colonial period. He was, and remains, particularly interested in the interplay between the Spanish-Mexican creoles, and indigenous ways of knowing in the melting pot of central Mexico.
